The Armani name on a fashion quartz: it looks the part, but most of the price is the label.

Our review

The Emporio Armani Diver AR11362 is a men's chronograph with a two-tone finish and a dive-style rotating bezel. It is made under licence by Fossil Group and uses a bought-in quartz movement. It looks bold and busy. The catch is that the Armani name is most of what you pay for, and the chronograph is of limited practical use.

What it is

The Diver gives the Emporio Armani look a dive-style rotating bezel. This reference, AR11362, is a chronograph with a two-tone finish, mixing steel and a warm metal tone. Emporio Armani watches are made under licence by Fossil Group, and they are sold on style and brand name rather than on watchmaking credentials.

The sub-dials and the two-tone case give it plenty of visual weight, which is the point.

The movement

The watch uses a bought-in quartz chronograph movement, commonly Japanese, powered by a battery. That means accuracy to within a few seconds a month and no winding. We have not named the calibre, since it is not published for this reference.

The stopwatch function is fine for casual timing but is not a precision tool. A battery change every couple of years is the normal upkeep, and chronograph use drains the battery faster.

On the wrist

The exact case size and thickness should be checked on the listing, as we have not confirmed them for this reference. Chronographs with a diver-style bezel tend to be large and thick, so expect a watch with real presence. The bracelet is part of the two-tone look and follows the case finish.

On a slim wrist it may look oversized, so consider proportions. Plated two-tone finishes can show wear at the edges over time.

Water and everyday wear

Check the water rating on the listing and the case back. Chronograph pushers are potential weak points for water, and the dive styling does not by itself mean the watch is meant for diving. Treat it as suitable for rain and splashes, and for swimming only if the stated rating clearly supports it.

The crystal is commonly mineral at this level, though it should be confirmed. Lume on the hands and markers is likely, but its strength is not something we can promise.

Against the alternatives

The Emporio Armani Diver AR11360 is the three-hand sibling without the chronograph, and the Tissot Seastar 1000 Chronograph (T120.417.11.091.01) is a Swiss quartz diver chronograph with a proper dive heritage. The Citizen Promaster Diver BN0150-28E is a solar alternative, and the Sekonda Velocity Chronograph 45mm is a lower-cost chronograph.

The Armani suits a buyer who wants the name and the two-tone look. The Tissot is a more serious watch.

Who it's for, and who should skip it

It suits someone who likes a bold, two-tone chronograph and the Armani label. It is a good gift for a style-conscious wearer.

Skip it if you want a better-made watch for the money: a Seiko or Citizen at the same price beats it. Skip it if you dislike large, busy dials. The honest drawback is that the finish is plated and much of the cost is brand.
