Our review
The Bambino is Orient's automatic dress watch, with a domed crystal and a simple dial in a case that is neither too large nor too thin. It is powered by an in-house Orient movement that can also be hand-wound. It is one of the cheapest ways to get a mechanical dress watch with real character. The catches are ordinary automatic accuracy and a modest water rating.
What it is
The Bambino is Orient's best-known dress watch, with a classic round case, a domed crystal and slim hands. This RA-AC0023E30B reference is part of the current generation, and the dial colour and details are shown on the listing. It sits at the entry level of Orient's mechanical range and is one of the most recommended starter dress automatics.
Orient belongs to the Seiko Epson group but designs and builds its own movements, so the Bambino is a more distinctive proposition than a typical fashion watch.
The movement
Inside is an Orient in-house automatic calibre, with a power reserve of around 40 hours. It is wound by the rotor as you move and can also be wound by hand with the crown, which helps if the watch has been left off. Accuracy for movements of this kind is a few seconds a day either way, with some variation. A service every several years keeps it going. Check the listing to see whether the caseback has a window.
On the wrist
The case is around the 40 mm mark, so it is a medium size that suits most wrists, and it is slim enough to go under a shirt cuff. The domed crystal gives the dial a vintage look. The strap is leather or steel depending on the version, so check the listing. The leather straps on watches at this level are usually decent but not luxurious.
If you want a very flat watch, note that the dome and the automatic movement add a little height compared with a thin quartz.
Water and everyday wear
Water resistance is the basic everyday level, so keep it away from swimming and showers. The crystal is mineral glass rather than sapphire, and the domed shape can pick up scratches at the edge. Hands have a small amount of lume in some versions, but it is not a night-readable watch. This is a dressy watch for the office and occasions rather than a rough-use piece.
Against the alternatives
The Orient Bambino RA-AC0025N30B and Orient Bambino RA-AP0105Y30B are the same line in different dials. The Tissot Le Locle Powermatic 80 T006.407.16.033.00 is a Swiss dress automatic with a longer reserve. The Citizen Automatic NK5010-51L is a plainer Japanese alternative. The Timex Marlin Automatic TW2W93200 is a vintage-style dressier option.
Who it's for, and who should skip it
It is for anyone who wants a classic dress watch with a mechanical movement without spending a lot. Skip it if you want swim-ready water resistance, sapphire glass, or time kept to the second.

Who shouldn't buy this
Don't buy it if you want time to the second: an automatic gains or loses a few seconds a day and needs a service every few years.
