Our review

The SONGMICS 10-Slot Watch Box holds ten watches under a glass lid, with removable pillows and a metal clasp. It gives a growing collection room to breathe and keeps dust away. It does not wind watches or act as a safe. The catch is that slot sizes vary, so bulky watches may not fit, and the box takes up a fair amount of space.

What it is

This is the ten-slot version of Songmics's watch box. It is built around the same idea as the six-slot box: individual compartments with soft pillows, a glass lid for display and a metal clasp. The extra capacity makes it suitable for a small but growing collection, and it works as a display piece on a dresser or shelf.

It is purely a storage box. It does not turn watches or protect them from knocks beyond a basic lining.

Build and materials

The outer shell on boxes like this is usually a synthetic leather-look or wood-effect finish over a fibreboard frame, and the lining is soft fabric. The lid has a glass panel so the watches are visible, and the pillows lift out. The exact materials are listed by the seller and should be checked, since finishes differ between versions.

The metal clasp holds the lid shut, but it is a closure rather than a security lock. The box is bulky, so make sure you have a flat surface of suitable size.

Using it day to day

Fasten each watch loosely around a pillow, and keep leather straps from being folded. Place the box away from direct sunlight, which can fade dials and dry out leather. Ten slots invite you to fill every space, but leave a little breathing room for bracelets so that clasps do not scratch neighbouring cases.

Slot and case sizes vary, so check the measurements against your largest watch. Some pillows are too small for big divers or smartwatches. Removing a pillow can free up room for a chunky watch.

Against the alternatives

Within the catalogue, the SONGMICS 6-Slot Watch Box is smaller, and the SONGMICS 8-Slot Two-Tier Wooden Watch Box adds a tray below for other items. The SONGMICS 12-Slot Two-Tier Wooden Watch Box goes further for bigger collections.

If you do not own many watches, a six-slot box is plenty, and if your watches are automatic and need winding, a separate winder is the right accessory.

Who it's for, and who should skip it

It suits a collector with several watches who wants to see them at a glance and keep dust off them. It also suits someone who expects to add to the collection over the next few years.

Skip it if you own one or two watches, since the original boxes will do. Skip it too if you want security or winding. The honest drawback is size: ten slots take up space, and the construction is basic compared with a solid wood box.
