The best Cartier watches to buy in the UK
The Cartier most people should look at first is the Santos de Cartier, from £7,250 for the medium automatic, or the Panthère at £4,550 for a smaller quartz watch. The Tank is Cartier's classic dress watch, sold at the same dealers.

Who Cartier suits
Cartier is a jeweller first, and its watches are about shape and design rather than complications. It suits someone who wants an elegant watch that works as jewellery, for men or women.
Which Cartier to choose
Santos de Cartier: the square steel watch with exposed screws on the bezel, automatic in medium (£7,250) and large (£7,900). Panthère: a small quartz watch on a supple steel bracelet, £4,550 in the small size. Tank: the rectangular classic; it wasn't in our Goldsmiths read, so it has a search link. Ballon Bleu: the round watch with the crown guard; search link too.
What to know before buying
- Cartier offers an extended warranty when you register the watch with Cartier; the dealer will explain how.
- Sizes are named small, medium and large rather than in millimetres: try them on.
- The Panthère and many Tanks are quartz, so they need little servicing.
- Cartier is sold at fewer UK dealers than the other brands here.
Servicing
The quartz Panthère needs a battery change and new seals now and then. A mechanical watch wants a full service every several years: it is taken apart, cleaned, re-oiled, regulated and pressure-tested. Use the brand's own service centre or a dealer that sends it there, ask for the current price list before you commit, and keep the paperwork with the watch: a service history helps if you ever sell it.
Questions
What is the cheapest Cartier watch in the UK?

Is a quartz Cartier worth it?
Yes, if you want the design: you are paying for the case, bracelet and finishing, and you save on servicing.
