Before you buy
Why use a watch box.
A box stops watches scratching each other in a drawer, keeps dust off and makes it easy to choose one each morning. It also protects straps and bracelets from tangling. Even two or three watches benefit. Bracelets are the worst culprits: a steel bracelet loose in a drawer will scratch a crystal or polished case quickly. A box with separate slots keeps each watch apart.
Number of slots.
Buy for the collection you have plus a few spare slots. Collections tend to grow. A 6-slot box suits most people; 10 and 12-slot boxes suit larger collections. Also count any watches you keep in their original boxes; many people find they'd rather have them all in one place. A larger box with empty slots costs little more than a small one. Measure the space where the box will live, too.
Pillow size.
Check the pillow circumference against your watches. Small pillows are tight for large bracelets and big cases; large pillows are loose for small wrists. Some boxes have adjustable or removable pillows. Large dive watches and chunky G-Shocks may need the bigger pillows found in some boxes; small women's watches may slide around on standard ones. Read the internal slot dimensions in the listing.
Glass lid vs solid lid.
A glass lid lets you see your watches, which many people enjoy. Keep the box out of direct sunlight, though: strong light fades straps and dials over time. A solid lid protects better. A glass lid also makes it easier to see if you've left a watch out, and lets you enjoy the collection without opening the box. Check the lid closes firmly and the hinge holds it open.
Materials.
PU leather boxes are cheap and look smart; wooden boxes look classic and are often sturdier. Soft interiors (velvet or suede-like) protect the watches. Check for strong hinges and a lid that stays open. Paulownia wood, used in some SONGMICS boxes, is light and resists moisture. Cheap PU leather can peel at the corners after a few years; real wood lasts longer.
Lock.
Some boxes have a simple lock, which stops children and casual tampering but isn't real security. For valuable watches, a safe is better. If you keep the key in the lock, it offers no protection at all. Store valuable watches out of sight.
Drawers and two-tier boxes.
Boxes with drawers, like the ProCase 6-slot with drawer, or two-tier wooden boxes, store straps, tools and jewellery as well. Useful if you change straps often. A drawer is handy for spare links, strap tools and warranty cards, which tend to go missing otherwise.
Travel cases.
Single-watch travel cases (ProCase, AUKURA, WATCHPOD) protect one watch in a bag. A hard shell protects against crushing; a zip pouch is lighter. Choose one that fits your largest watch. A single-watch case also protects a watch in a suitcase or gym bag. Many have a removable pillow so you can travel with a watch on a bracelet or strap.
Humidity.
Store watches in a dry place. Some boxes have space for a silica gel pack, which helps in damp homes and protects leather straps. Avoid storing watches in bathrooms or near radiators. A cool, dry room is best for straps and movements.
We haven't tested every box ourselves. We compared what UK shops sell by the makers' published specs: capacity, pillow size, materials, lid, lock and size, and looked at widely reported owner feedback on build quality. UK prices and stock are tracked through the day. Read our full methodology →

Common questions
Do I need a watch box?
If you have more than one watch, yes: it stops them scratching each other, keeps dust off and makes choosing easier. A single watch can live on a stand or in its original box.
How many slots should my watch box have?
Your current collection plus a few spare. Six slots suits most people. Collections tend to grow, so leave room.
Are glass-lid watch boxes safe?
Yes, but keep them out of direct sunlight, which can fade straps and dials. A solid lid protects better if the box will sit by a window.
What's the best way to travel with a watch?
In a padded travel case that fits your watch, ideally a hard shell to protect against crushing. Keep it in hand luggage when flying.
Should I store watches with silica gel?
In damp homes, a silica gel pack helps keep moisture down, which protects leather straps and mechanical movements. Replace or dry it out periodically.
Is a wooden or leather watch box better?
Wooden boxes are usually sturdier and last longer; PU leather boxes are lighter and cheaper but can peel with age. Both protect watches equally well if the interior is soft and the slots fit.
